Alex House – Alphabet Streets, Fulham Convervation Area

Nestled in the leafy Alphabet Streets within the Fulham Conservation Area, this period home was brimming with character — from its beautifully restored original staircase to its generous proportions — yet it lacked natural light, modern practicality and sufficient storage. Recognising its potential, the clients entrusted EMR Architecture to reimagine the property as a home that would reflect their lifestyle and design aspirations.

We secured planning approval for a basement, rear extension and loft with rear dormers, enabling a full back-to-brick refurbishment. Every room was reconsidered to ensure clarity of purpose, abundant daylight and seamless flow, creating a family home that feels as practical as it is inspiring.

On the ground floor, striking Crittall glazing frames views of the landscaped garden and draws daylight deep into the plan. The arrangement includes a welcoming entrance hall, a cosy living room, a cloakroom, a boot room, and a highly functional kitchen with a discreet walk-in pantry — all designed for everyday ease without compromising elegance.

Below, the new basement is a versatile hub for family life: a media and games room, a gym, a guest suite with en-suite bathroom, a utility room, plant room and an additional shower room. Upstairs, the house continues to surprise with a second formal living room, a serene principal suite complete with walk-in wardrobe and spa-like en-suite, five further bedrooms, an office and four elegant bathrooms, including three en-suites.

The result is a Fulham home that balances character with contemporary comfort — generous, light-filled and timelessly refined. It stands as an example of how EMR Architecture transforms conservation area properties into luxury family homes designed for modern living in the heart of Fulham.
