At the end of the garden of Daisy House in Fulham, EMR Architecture created a standalone studio — a versatile use of outdoor space that extends the home in both
function and character. Designed to be adaptable, this compact building demonstrates how a well-planned addition can provide valuable extra square metres at an affordable cost.
The studio was conceived to accommodate three desks, with its own shower room and WC, making it ideal as a fully self-contained home office or guest suite. High-speed internet and plumbing were integrated from the outset, ensuring that the space functions as a true extension of the house rather than a detached outbuilding.
Since completion, the studio has already evolved with the family’s needs — first serving as EMR Office, then as a music studio it became later becoming Emilie’s son’s bedroom when he moved to university. Its adaptability is a testament to the foresight of its design.
Built in just two months, EMR Studio is proof that even modest projects can deliver significant value, versatility and comfort, turning unused garden space into a functional and inspiring environment.

We have just completed a year long project with EMR Architecture. We were moving from a rented flat to our first house and we had never done any refurbishment in London before so we were completely clueless about the process but we had a budget. While we were searching for architects and contractors, Emilie and her team came highly recommended and it was absolutely the BEST decision that we have made to work with her. She and her team turned an old Victorian house in Fulham to our DREAM home, taking it back to brick, and managing the process incredibly well in 12 months as promised. She was superb in working in our budget, for example when we could not extend the basement, she suggested a wonderful ground floor extension instead which will now be our main living area. She is very creative and has great taste. When we could not extend our loft as we are in the conservation area, she came up with creative solutions to drop the ceiling below to give is more liveable headroom in the loft so we could turn it into an office and a gym. She also has great suppliers and always went to great lengths to get us the best prices. She would guide us on where to spend the money and where to save so we do not waste our budget. She visited the site regularly and was always involved on the chats and emails. She always has oversight on her team so is involved from start to finish. She has fought for us throughout the process whether its getting the best planning permission or getting the suppliers to deliver on time. She is very detail oriented and has an amazing eye for any details or any improvements we can make. I can go on and on about how amazing our experience was with EMR Architecture. Not only does she have fantastic design skills, but she understands how to translate this into practical living without breaking the bank. We appointed EMR to renovate our terraced house in London, having struggled to find a design that worked with a previous architect. The footprint of the house is small, making it a challenge to fit everything in, but EMR quickly came up with an incredible design that utilised every inch of space whilst still achieving a stunning finish. Oddly enough, it's after the design and planning phase where EMR really come into their own, going above and beyond what we expected from an architect. From the weekly site visits and updates to their incredible rolodex of suppliers, EMR dedicated a huge amount of time to helping us choose the best products and ensuring we got excellent value for money. Emilie and her team worked tirelessly to improve the design and finish, constantly looking to change and improve if they saw a better solution as the build unfolded. EMR more than justify their fees by the additional level of effort that they put into managing the build and helping with the interiors. The build was finished on time and on budget despite a full COVID lockdown along the way. The finished house is everything we hoped it would be and more and we are absolutely delighted with the end result.
