Irene House – Parsons Green, Fulham

In Parsons Green, EMR Architecture reimagined a narrow 5-metre-wide Victorian terrace, taking it back to brick and creating both a loft extension and a reconfigured kitchen. The house was also structurally prepared for a future basement excavation — an unusual move that allowed the clients to enjoy their home immediately while leaving the option open for further expansion.

Every bedroom in the house was designed with its own en-suite bathroom, ensuring comfort and privacy for the family. On the first-floor landing, a home office has been discreetly integrated, alongside what has become one of the most elegant WCs we have ever delivered — a small space elevated into a showcase of refinement.

The clients brought a highly ambitious brief, drawing inspiration from grand mansions, which EMR adapted to suit the scale of a London terrace. The result is a masterclass in bespoke detailing: turned handrails, iron spindles, continuous skirting seamlessly linking landings and stairs, plasterwork with intricate mouldings, and invisible doors that add a layer of surprise. Reclaimed 120-year-old parquet from Provence was remounted on engineered wood to create durable yet character-rich flooring. Steel doors open the kitchen to the garden, while bespoke marble surfaces and carefully tailored joinery complete the interiors.

Irene House is the product of creativity, precision and craft. It demonstrates how the ambition of a client, paired with EMR’s architectural expertise, can elevate a compact

Victorian terrace into a home of grandeur, elegance and individuality in the heart of Parsons Green.
