Tardis House
Tardis House, Parsons Green
This complete architectural refurbishment in Parsons Green transforms a traditional terraced house into a vibrant and highly personalised family home. EMR Architecture undertook a full renovation, including a loft conversion, basement extension with central lightwell, and a spacious kitchen extension — all designed to maximise light, space, and character.
Due to a shared drain at the rear, the basement lightwell was repositioned to the centre of the house. This constraint became a feature: the new lightwell now draws natural light deep into the lower ground floor and showcases bespoke graffiti artwork, adding a bold, urban edge to the home.
The clients — a creative couple with two children — brought a strong sense of identity to the brief. A standout feature is the TARDIS-inspired shower, a playful tribute to Doctor Who. In the loft, a custom-built bookshelf conceals a hidden door to a private office, blending functionality with a touch of theatre.
Throughout the house, the interiors reflect a warm, layered aesthetic: exposed brickwork in the kitchen, timber and glass detailing on the staircase, and a colourful, light-filled children’s bedroom. Large glazed openings connect the living spaces to the garden, which was also designed by EMR to complement the home’s character.
Tardis House is a thoughtful response to both the practical and imaginative needs of a modern family — a home where architectural problem-solving meets bespoke design.
