Hartland House – Queen’s Park

In Queen’s Park, EMR Architecture transformed a dated terraced property into a refined and contemporary family home. Taken back to brick, the house was fully renovated and extended with a loft and pod, rethinking the interiors to create a bright and highly functional living environment.

A defining feature of the project is the glass side return, where a glass-on-glass junction connects the roof to the rear elevation. This bold architectural detail draws daylight deep into the house, while internal glazing and pocket doors allow spaces to be closed off or opened up as needed. The result is a home that offers separation and intimacy without ever losing its sense of light and flow.

The front façade, originally painted, was carefully restored to exposed brick, giving the property a timeless presence on the street. Inside, the layouts were reconfigured to suit family life. The arrangement now includes two guest bedrooms, a generous master suite with a walk-in wardrobe leading into a private en-suite bathroom, and a children’s bedroom with its own en-suite. Clever storage has been integrated throughout, ensuring practicality is matched with elegance.

Hartland House illustrates EMR Architecture’s ability to respect historic character while introducing modern interventions that enhance light, proportion and comfort. The result is a Queen’s Park home that feels both contemporary and enduring.
